House Sitting: Build your Profile

House Sitting: Build your Profile

So you want to build your profile and embark on House Sitting adventures. Good for you! And welcome to the community!

You’ve read our article about all the House Sitting platforms that are available and made your choice as to which ones you want to work with. But now, you need to advertise your presence to all of the Homeowners looking for House Sitters.

What can you offer? Do you have House Sitting experience? What are you looking for in a House Sitting assignment?

The key is to build your House Sitting profile honestly to ensure suitable matches from the House Sit assignments available to you.

Let’s have a look, shall we?

House Sitting profile: Introductions are in order

You could almost view your House Sitting profile like an online dating profile; the first logical step is to introduce yourself to all the Homeowners out there!

  • What’s your name?

  • Where are you from?

  • Why do you want to House Sit?

Be heartfelt and genuine. Relying on just spewing out facts will make you sound generic and go unnoticed. Don’t be shy to let you passion and enthusiasm shine!

Even if you’re a shy or reserved type and not one to sell yourself, you can still make a strong and passionate case as to why you’d make a standout Sitter. Maybe it’s your attention to detail, reliability, trustworthiness… don’t be afraid to emphasize what you really have that will stand out.

House Sitting profile: Qualifications

Now that the ice has been broken, you might want to consider listing off your qualifications. Think of this as your pedigree; what are you bringing to the table.

  • Where have you travelled?

  • Have you taken care of home and/or pets before?

  • Which skills do you possess that will make a Homeowner feel at ease if you were to go House Sit for them?

  • Do you like cleaning, gardening, being a handyman?

Like we said, the key is to be honest. If you have no idea how to care for an in-ground swimming pool, don’t say that you can. Don’t be shy to list as many skills you believe would be sought after for any House Sitting assignment. If you’re handy with tools, talk about it! If you know how to administer medicine to dogs, mention that too! Anything that highlights your competencies and reliability.

Just remember that your profile is your store-front window. Invest the required time it takes to let yourself shine! Add pictures, include an introduction video!

House Sitting profile: Trust factor

Since House Sitting is based all around trust, be sure to include any experiences that will bring peace of mind to Homeowners who will read your House Sitting profile. Make them feel reassured that you can fulfill their House Sitting needs.

  • If you have any security background check documents that you can provide.

  • If you’ve completed some courses that demonstrate your expertise, such as pet CPR and care courses.

  • Anything that demonstrate how you wish to be there for them if they decide to select you for their House Sitting assignment.

House Sitting profile: References

This is one we often hear from newcomers: “I’m just starting so I don’t have any House Sitting referrals!! Who’s going to want to choose me?!?”

The Amazing Stroll: Don’t stop, drop and roll

The Amazing Stroll: Don’t stop, drop and roll

Listen, everyone had to start somewhere. Although you don’t have House Sitting references earned from assignments listed off House Sitting platforms, you probably already have some kind of experience of value that you could reference from. Such as:

  • Family members or friends that you’ve house sat or pet sat for.

  • Volunteer work you might of performed.

  • Airbnb references that show that you are respectful of other people’s home.

  • Previous landlords that can vouch for you.

  • Any other references that you could get that demonstrate that you are a person of ethics and trustworthy.

Unfortunately, not all House Sitting platforms allow you to list your references earned from outside their own platforms; i.e. References earned from Nomador cannot be included on your Trusted Housesitters profile.

To get around that, we recommend you also list your House Sitting profile and references on a neutral platform, such as Remote.

That way, when creating a House Sitting profile on an official House Sitting platform, just mention that more references are available upon request or even include the link to your profile from the neutral platform.

House Sitting profile: Resources

Still insecure about what to include in your House Sitting profile? Or worse… what if you’re very good with animals, trustworthy and an overall nice person but your writing skills aren’t necessarily up to par to properly demonstrate all of your wonderful attributes?

Luckily for you there are resources available in case you require extra help with this all so important process.

Writing Resource

Regardless if you’ve signed up to one of these online courses or decided to go at it yourself (with a little bit of help from our House Sitting articles of course), you still need to sit down and string sentences together in order to have a polished House Sitting profile.

If the thought of this is enough to give you nightmares, you can always write a draft of what you want to include and outsource it to a more seasoned writer:

Fiverr

Professionals for hire at a reasonable cost.

On many occasions we’ve hired professional help listed on Fiverr. Help with logo design, proofreading, audio mixing, etc. A great pool of resources are at your disposal at affordable rates.

Simbi

The Symbyotic Economy.

A platform for which you offer services for Simbi credits that you can exchange for acquiring a service, such as a writer!

This platform is not tit-for-that meaning you don’t have to swap services with someone, you can spend your credits on anyone you want for any type of service you want.

Simbi gives you credits to start with so no need to stress out about which services you could offer yourself to earn credits.
We’ve used it numerous times, from Wordpress coding services, to proofreading services, to design services.
Just another resource at your fingertip.
